Salmon is a food with a lot of health benefits. It’s got protein to keep you full, healthy fats for your heart and brain, antioxidants, vitamin B12, vitamin D, and so much more. But unfortunately, it’s not a food that most people love to eat.

Well, I’m on a dietitian mission to change that! Salmon doesn’t have to look like steam packets with boring veggies. In fact, you can get all the health benefits of salmon even when it’s smothered in delicious sauce like in this recipe.

Try these oven-baked salmon bites with hot honey for an elevated and fun salmon experience. Bonus: they’re ridiculously easy to make!

Why you’ll love it

Easy: Cooking salmon can be intimidating, but this recipe keeps it easy. You’ll only need a bit of prep and a handful of ingredients to make these salmon bites in the oven.

Tasty: Who doesn’t love hot honey?! These salmon bites are flakey, moist, and absolutely delicious.

Air fryer instructions: In case you don’t want to heat your whole house, I’ve included air fryer instructions, too.

Ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make these oven baked salmon bites:

  • Boneless and skinless salmon — or, leave the skin on if you prefer
  • Olive oil — for baking the salmon, you can sub any neutral oil
  • Salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper — add other spices if desired
  • Honey
  • Hot sauce — I use Frank’s Red Hot but use what you like
  • Butter
  • Lime juice — fresh is definitely best for this

Step-by-step instructions

Position your oven rack to the middle and pre-heat to 425 F. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper and set aside (see notes for air fryer instructions).

To a medium mixing bowl, add salmon, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat.

Spread salmon bites evenly over the parchment-lined pan. Make sure they’re spread out with no overlap.

Bake for 8-12 minutes or until salmon is cooked to your liking. Finish under the broiler for 1-3 minutes for some extra crisp, but watch them closely to prevent burning.

When your salmon is done cooking, prepare your hot honey. Add honey, hot sauce, and butter to a small sauce pan over medium-low heat. Stirring occasionally, heat this mixture until the butter is melted and everything is combined. Taste, and adjust ingredients as needed.

Pour hot honey over the salmon and gently toss with tongs. Finish with a squeeze of lime juice.

How to serve oven-baked salmon bites

I like to serve my hot honey salmon bites with rice, shelled edamame, and green onions.

Sometimes, I’ll also add a steamed vegetable like broccoli, cauliflower, or green beans for extra color and nutrition. You can also add more to garnish like sesame seeds, crushed red pepper flakes, or chives.

Prefer to use your air fryer?

Pre-heat your air fryer to 400 F according to manufacturer’s directions.

Bake your salmon for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through and lightly golden. Make sure not to over-crowd the air fryer. Once the salmon is cooked, transfer your salmon bites to a large mixing bowl to toss with hot honey.

Top tip

Taste your hot honey before adding it to the salmon! Everyone’s taste buds are different, and different brands produce different results. Add more honey or more hot sauce until it’s the right balance for you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use pre-made hot honey instead?

Sure! You’ll need at least a quarter cup of pre-made hot honey to use in this recipe, but adjust to your liking. You can still melt this with butter if you like, but you don’t have to.

My salmon bites aren’t crispy. What should I do?

Pop them under the broiler for an additional 1-3 minutes! This will get your oven-baked salmon bites nice and crisp.
